Most people will feel mild to severe pain or discomfort when acquiring braces. They might experience some soreness after a brace tightening, which frequently occurs when wearing braces.

The discomfort or pain should subside in a few days, but in the interim, one can attempt these pain-relieving methods:

Drinking cold water and eating cooler foods

Place an ice pack on your face

Consume soft foods such as yogurt, soups, and food that has been placed in a food processor.

Avoid foods that are hard to chew, such as steaks, chewing gum, and foods that can get caught in your braces.

Brush your teeth after every meal to avoid food getting stuck.

Over-the-counter medication can be used when you feel like you are in a lot of pain.

Rinse your mouth with lukewarm salt water to help the gums heal.

You can buy soft wax to place on top of the brackets that cause your gums and skin in your mouth to bleed. You can buy the wax from your orthodontist or online.

A topical anesthetic can be used for the first week to help relieve the pain. You can place it on your gums with your fingers or use a cotton swab.
